Solar Australia — February 2012
Since Hyundai Motor joined the Australian market in the late-1980s with the motto, ‘Say Hello to Hyundai’, the company has strived to build on its popularity in Australia. Based on this strong brand power, Hyundai Solar was recently launched into the market.
As a complex heavy industry group, Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) has seven divisions: Shipbuilding; Offshore and Engineering; Industrial Plant and Engineering; Engine and Machinery, Electro Electric Systems; Construction Equipment; and Green Energy.
2011 was the inaugural year for Green Energy Division, after separating from the Electro Electric Systems Division in order to focus on renewable energy sources in this new era.
HHI commenced solar production in 2005 with a small capacity of 20 megawatts (MW) per annum, after undertaking extensive research and development since the mid-1990s. Since 2005, production capacity has increased to what is at present 600 MW per annum.
This year Hyundai Solar established a new manufacturing plant located in Eumseong, Korea, and commenced production of copper indium gallium selenide thin-film solar panels.
Hyundai Solar exports to customers throughout the world, including Australia, Europe, the United States and Asia.
